Downtown Aspen Reopens Twice This Winter, and the Second Time Is Wintersköl Weekend

At 205 S. Mill St., three restaurants share one address and keep three different fall calendars. Cache Cache served its last night of the summer season on Saturday, October 3, and will reopen on Friday, December 11. Campo de Fiori is open all offseason. Starting Oct. 11 it opens at 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and closes Sundays and Mondays. Las Montanas keeps serving dinner every night from 5 p.m. It stopped serving lunch after October 5 and won't serve it again until mid-December.

The rest of the core runs on the same split calendar. eatAspen's Fall 2026 offseason guide lists closure dates for downtown restaurants, and their reopenings fall into two groups. One group comes back around Aspen Mountain's Nov. 26 opening day. The other waits until the second week of December. That week is also Wintersköl, the four-day winter celebration on the Dec. 10 to 13 schedule, which includes the Aspen Highlands and Buttermilk opening day. For anyone who lives within walking distance of the malls, Nov. 26 is when much of downtown comes back, and the second week of December is when the rest of the dinner calendar fills in.

The closures arrive in steps through early November

There's no single shutdown date downtown. Here is the sequence the fall guide lists, starting with the places that had already closed by today, Oct. 10:

  1. Duemani, 216 S. Monarch St., closed September 29.
  2. Bosq, 312 S. Mill, began its seasonal closure on 10.3.26.
  3. Cache Cache closed after October 3, and Matsuhisa, 303 E. Main St., shut its upstairs room beginning October 6.
  4. Betula Aspen, 525 E. Cooper Ave., and PARC Aspen, 620 E. Hyman Ave., both close October 11.
  5. The Wild Fig, 305 South Mill St., closes 10/18.
  6. French Alpine Bistro, 400 E. Hopkins Ave., has its last night on 10/21.
  7. Aosta, 219 East Durant Ave., and The Monarch Steak House, 411 S. Monarch St., close 10/25.
  8. Aspen Brewing Co., 121 S. Galena St., runs on reduced hours and then takes a short break from 11/9 to 11/17.

ZigZag at 624 East Cooper Ave. is marked closed for the offseason, and the space is changing hands. More on that below. Many other downtown entries in the guide don't list a status at all, so a quick call is the only way to know whether those are open on a given night.

Two reopening dates, about two weeks apart

The closing dates are spread out. The reopening dates cluster.

Listed reopening or end of closure Restaurant Address
After 11/17 Aspen Brewing Co. 121 S. Galena St.
11/25 French Alpine Bistro 400 E. Hopkins Ave.
Closure through 11/26 Aosta 219 East Durant Ave.
Closure through 11/26 The Monarch Steak House 411 S. Monarch St.
Closure through 11/26 The Wild Fig 305 South Mill St.
Closure through November 26 Betula Aspen 525 E. Cooper Ave.
December 4 Duemani 216 S. Monarch St.
Closure through 12.10.26 Bosq 312 S. Mill
December 11 Cache Cache 205 S. Mill St.
December 11 Matsuhisa, upstairs 303 E. Main St.
Mid-December Las Montanas, lunch service 205 S. Mill St.
Closure through December 15 PARC Aspen 620 E. Hyman Ave.

The first group lines up with Aspen Mountain. Aspen Snowmass has set the mountain's 2026/27 opening for Nov. 26, according to The Aspen Times. French Alpine Bistro reopens the night before. Aosta, The Monarch, The Wild Fig and Betula all list closures that end on Nov. 26 itself. Nov. 26 is also Thanksgiving, and Matsuhisa and Yuki both list a full closure that day.

The second group starts with Duemani on Dec. 4. It fills out over Wintersköl weekend, as Bosq's closure ends, Cache Cache and the Matsuhisa upstairs room reopen on Friday, Dec. 11, and Las Montanas brings back lunch. PARC Aspen comes back last, when its closure ends Dec. 15. On the published Wintersköl schedule, Saturday, Dec. 12 is opening day for Aspen Highlands and Buttermilk. So the core's full dinner lineup returns closer to the second ski opening than to the first.

What stays open in between

The guide confirms a short list of downtown places that are open now, several on reduced hours. Between Oct. 25 and Nov. 25, this list is most of downtown dining:

  • Campo de Fiori, 205 S. Mill St.: open all offseason, Tuesday through Saturday at 6 p.m. from Oct. 11.
  • Las Montanas, 205 S. Mill St.: happy hour from 3 to 5 p.m. and dinner from 5 p.m. every night.
  • Matsuhisa, 303 E. Main St.: open all offseason downstairs. The upstairs room opens on Mondays for Monday night football specials, at the bar downstairs too.
  • Yuki, 450 S. Galena: open but closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 10/6 through 11/18. The off-season specials page lists Fall 2026 specially priced menu favorites, cocktail and wine specials, and a bar-only menu of shareable dishes.
  • Catch Steak, 515 E Hopkins: open, 6 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and until 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
  • Steakhouse No. 316, 316 E. Hopkins Ave.: open, in a remodeled 1888 Victorian home.
  • CP Burger, 433 East Durant Ave.: open all offseason. From Oct. 5 the hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and until 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
  • Crepe Therapy Cafe, 401 E. Cooper Ave.: open daily, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and until 8 p.m. on weekends.
  • Explore Books Cafe, 221 E. Main St.: the cafe is open 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. seven days a week, and the bookstore stays open until 5 p.m.
  • Little Ollie's, 308 S. Hunter St., and New York Pizza, 409 E. Hyman Ave.: both marked open.

Most of these are casual and early-closing. From late October to late November, only a few are full-service dinner rooms: Campo de Fiori, Las Montanas, Catch Steak, Steakhouse No. 316 and Matsuhisa downstairs.

The newest rooms downtown, before the winter crowds

Several places opened downtown in 2026 and haven't had a full winter yet. eatAspen's Oct. 2 roundup of new restaurants lists what opened over the summer.

The Golden Horn opened in summer 2026 in a downstairs space at 320 S. Mill St., on the Mill Street pedestrian mall. It calls itself a bar and lounge for games and drinks, with warm wood walls. It serves lunch and dinner and has a fall menu posted.

Eddy's Marketplace opened in August 2026 at 315 E. Hyman Ave., across from the Wheeler Opera House, as a marketplace and kitchen. A February 2026 eatAspen roundup said an Eddy's restaurant would open next door "in the near future." It gave no date, and no newer timeline has appeared.

LoLa 41 opened in summer 2026 inside the new White Elephant hotel at 110 West Main St. The fall guide doesn't list offseason hours for LoLa 41 or Eddy's, so check before you go.

Two more are on the way. Le Cafe is listed as coming in December 2026 to 624 East Cooper Ave., taking over from ZigZag in the former Mezzaluna space. Hillstone plans to open at 304 E. Hopkins Ave., next to The White House Tavern, in a newly constructed building on the former Elevation, Aspen Tap and Over Easy site. No opening date has been published.

The Wheeler and the museum fill the quiet weeks

While many restaurants are closed, downtown's cultural calendar keeps going. The Wheeler Opera House calendar shows these dates:

  • Oct. 15: In the Company of Wolves: An American Journey, a film screening with a conversation.
  • Oct. 20: Kiliii Yüyan presents Indigenous Wisdom for a Modern World.
  • Oct. 21, 4:30 to 6 p.m.: a free community open house celebrating the Wheeler's 2026 Outstanding Historic Theatre Award.
  • Oct. 24: the Vienna Boys Choir.
  • Oct. 31: the Halloween-season musical The Lost Stop.

Also on Oct. 24, Aspen Film and Belly Up are screening The Rocky Horror Picture Show at 7:30 p.m., with Jocko Homo playing at 9:30. In November the Aspen Art Museum takes over. Its Community Ofrenda runs from Oct. 27 to Nov. 8 and ends with a Day of the Dead celebration on Nov. 8. The museum also lists a DanceAspen Sneak Peek on Nov. 18 and an Active Art: Pumpkin Painting session on Nov. 19.

Wintersköl weekend brings back the rest

The Wintersköl schedule falls on the same dates as the second round of reopenings. The page still carries a note that the 2026 schedule is coming soon, so details may change. Thursday, Dec. 10 includes the traditional free screening of Aspen Extreme at the Wheeler at 7:30 p.m. On Friday, Dec. 11, the day Cache Cache and the Matsuhisa upstairs room reopen, Anderson Ranch Arts Center's free KIDSCULPT snow-sculpture event runs on the Mill Street Mall from 9 a.m. to noon. Saturday, Dec. 12 moves to Wagner Park, with the new "Toast of Winter" beer festival from 2 to 6 p.m. and the free Soupsköl competition among valley restaurants from 3 to 5 p.m. A bonfire runs from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m., and the torchlight parade and fireworks start on Aspen Mountain at 7. PARC Aspen's closure ends three days later, on Dec. 15.
